“Unfortunately, as so happens with people my age, I got sick this week. I didn’t miss class —- I NEVER miss class —- but I haven’t been doing a very good teaching job. (Thank God I had a guest speaker in 215).

Even so, after I got off a phone interview for a magazine story, I hustled over to Chapman Radio to try to catch some of the hoopla about the new studio. (Hell, it’s the same old studio, but new equipment, and radio general manager Tyler McCusker knows how to put a spin on things.)

I didn’t have time to go, and I was deathly sick, But Tyler is a dear friend, and thought he would appreciate my being there for him.

So I get over there is the middle of all the bullshit speeches, in plenty of time for the unveiling of the studio’s new name —- Levy-Kertes —- and in time to shake Tyler’s hand and congratulate him for putting this altogether. So what did Tyler say?

“You’re late.”

Susan, you just can’t please everybody. Even if you editors didn’t cover the hoopla, the new name deserves attention. Richard Doetkott said, “It’s always a miracle when a faculty person and an administrator collaborate on anything.” Kertes is one of the unsung heroes around here, and deserves recognition. Hell, his office is just steps down DeMille Hall from ours. Not hard to find.

I’ve had a had a hard time deciding whether to include this line —- I thought of Shana Makos rolling her eyes —- but what the hell.

Afterwards, Levy said about Tyler:

“He’ll be a mogul in this business some day.”

hahahah YOU WOULD. I would roll my eyes indeed. Love you B <3
